5 Signs Youre Stuck in a Cycle of Debt

5 Signs Youre Stuck in a Cycle of Debt 5 Signs Youre Stuck in a Cycle of Debt 5 Signs Youre Stuck in a Cycle of DebtFeeling like you can’t get ahead on your bills? Living paycheck to paycheck and making minimum payments may confirm you need a new system. The world is filled with many wonderful cycles. Let’s consider some of them, shall we?There’s the bicycle, of course. It’s a good method of transportation that doesn’t add to the carbon emissions in the atmosphere, and it’s a great form of near full-body exercise, as well. The unicycle has all of the same benefits of a bicycle, but it’s much harder to use. While some people will be impressed by your acrobatic skills if you can successfully use a unicycle, others will turn up their noses, convinced that your presence is a sign their neighborhood has been invaded by the dreaded hipsters. If you like being alive, then you must also be a fan of the Krebs cycle, one of the necessary processes for cellular respiration.Unfortunately,   not all cycles are so lovely or good for our health and well-being. For example, you don’t want to find yourself trapped in the dreaded debt cycle. Yes, this is a cycle in which you get behind on your financial obligations and fall further and further into debt. You may not even realize you’re trapped in the cycle until it’s too late â€" which is why we spoke to the experts.Continue reading to learn the telltale signs of a debt cycle, so you can figure out a way to either avoid or escape one.Sign No. 1: You’re living paycheck to paycheckEven if you’re not loaded down with debt at the moment, if you’re living paycheck to paycheck, then you could be trapped within a debt cycle. One unexpected incident or expense can cause the cycle to rev into full gear.Ryan Luke, personal finance blogger at Arrest Your Debt (@Arrestyourdebt), says a paycheck-to-paycheck lifestyle is one of the most telling signs you are experiencing a debt cycle.   “After the bills come in each month, you have absolutely no money left over,” he says. “In fact, you more than likely needed to put this month’s grocery bill on a credit card with the hope to pay it off next month.”Sign No. 2: You can only make minimum payments each monthMaybe you can still technically pay your bills. But if you’re only paying the minimum requirement, you’re going to be dealing with more and more interest that can quickly bury you, according to Beverly Friedmann, content manager for ReviewingThis (@ReviewingThis).“If youre only making minimum payments on all of your monthly expenses, or having trouble meeting minimum fee requirements, this is a red flag for impending or existing debt,” she says. “Agencies and credit issuers love when you make minimum payments because they tend to collect the highest interest rate fees, so youll end up spending more over a longer period of time.”Sign No. 3: Your debt-to-income ratio is no goodOn the most basic level, the debt cycle occurs because your income is being eclipsed by your obligations.“If your debt to income ratio is more than one-to-one, you’re digging yourself a hole,” says Zachary Siegel of Sprout Lending. And that hole may be difficult to escape. “However, if you work with good people and invest the debt in items that generate a positive return on investment, it isn’t hard to overcome. The richest people leverage debt to accumulate more wealth.”Sign No. 4: You’ve got credit card problemsIf you’re blowing through your credit limits on the regular, that’s not a good sign.“If your credit card balances keep rising, this is definitely a red flag and a sign of a potential cycle of debt on the horizon,” Friedmann warns. “If youve already maxed out one or more credit cards, this is even more problematic and can catalyze a significant financial downswing thats difficult to work your way back out of.” ”Can’t qualify for credit cards at all? That’s not so good either!“If credit card issuers have reason to believe you wont be able to repay borrowed money, youll be rejected for most cards you try to qualify for,” Friedmann says. “This is especially problematic if youre trying to rebuild your credit during a difficult financial period. If youre continually rejected for different credit cards (other than ones for those with poor credit), this is definitely a sign youre stuck in a cycle of debt.”Sign No 5: You’re not savingIf you don’t have savings, you’re always going to be one financial emergency away from being spun in the dreaded cycle of debt.“If you seem to be spending more than youre making and dont have a stable savings fund, you may be stuck in a poor financial situation and cycle of debt,” Friedmann warns. “Savings for the future are extremely important, especially with a potential economic downturn on the horizon. A lot of us focus on payments for monthly bills and daily spending, but we often forget to save for the futureâ€"especially if we have stable sources of income.”Tips to reverse the debt cycleWhat can yo u do if you’ve read this article and now realize you might be in a cycle of debt or are at risk for getting stuck in one? Here’s some   advice.Budget, budget, budget. “Try to sit down and budget your monthly expenses so that you can make the highest payments possible for each bill at a rate that you can afford. It will pay off in the long run and you wont find yourself stuck in a cycle of debt,” Friedmann says.Think small to plan big. “To make long-term savings easier, try to start budgeting for the week and month ahead in smaller increments,” Friedmann adds. “You can build a 6-month emergency fund slowly for anything that might come up down the line. This will help you gain a sense of security and climb out of a negative financial cycle at the same time.”Increase your credit card payments (if you have debt). If you have credit card debt, it’s always ideal to pay off the amount owed in full. If that’s not possible, make the highest monthly payments you can afford , Friedmann says. “If you find yourself owing money to one or more credit issuers, start making payments as soon as possible,” she says. “Call the agencies in question to see if there are any financial hardship options or different payment restructuring plans available.”The obvious: spend less. Chad Rixse, Director of Financial Planning at  Forefront Wealth Partners (@forefrontwealthpartners), urges taking a hard look at your spending habits. “Are you spending money out of necessity or is it frivolous? Look for ways you can reduce your monthly living expenses. Move to a cheaper location, eat meals at home, and take public transportation instead of owning a car. If you cant make more money, you can always spend less.”Consider picking up a side hustle. “Drive Uber, do freelance work, or get a part-time job in a restaurant,” Rixse says. “Find ways to make some extra cash so you can put extra towards your debt.”It might not be easy, but we hope you can break the debt cycle, so you can focus on more positive yielding cycles in the future. For more tips on digging your way out of debt, check out these resources below:Your Guide to Escaping a Debt TrapThe Debt Snowball Method Can Help You Get Out of DebtYou’re Stuck in a Cycle of DebtNow What? The Debt Spiral: What is it and How to Escape it  |  InstagramContributorsBeverly Friedmann  works as a Content Manager for the consumer website  ReviewingThis  (@ReviewingThis)â€"with a background in Sales and Marketing Managementâ€"and is from New York, NY.Ryan Luke is a full-time police officer, but as a personal finance blogger, he has made it his personal mission to provide honest and easy-to-understand personal finance information. Essay about Nature vs. Nurture Controversy - 758 Words

There is a big controversy between whether inherited genes or the environment influences and effects our personality, development, behavior, intelligence and ability. This controversy is most often recognized as the nature verses nurture conflict. Some people believe that it is strictly genes that effect our ways of life, others believe that it is the environment that effects us, and some believe that both of these influence us. Either way, social scientists have been struggling for centuries deciding whether our personalities are born or made. Tests are done often on identical twins that were separated to see how they are influenced. In the past twenty years, it has been discovered that there is a genetic component to about every human†¦show more content†¦The first one is called a passive correlation. It is to be explained as, for example, if a musical ability was genetic, and a child was passed a musical ability trait, than the child would most likely have musically incli ned parents. Their parents then would provide them with the genes and environment to promote the development of that ability. The second one is called evocative. This happens when genetically distinct people evoke different reactions from peers and parents and others. And the third association is called an active correlation. This is when people actively select experiences that fit with their genetically influenced preferences. This doesnt mean that there are no environmental influences on behavior, because, for example, it is found to be that a loss of a parent during childhood promotes alcoholism in women. It is shown that genetics play a big role on influences in people and society. Leadership is a big quality that everyone has and has a wide range of variations. Heritability is what researchers call the degree to which behavioral variations within a population can be accounted for by genes. Heritability is what is found to make up a lot of ones personality. Assess Hume’s Reasons for Rejecting Miracles Free Essays

Assess Hume’s reasons for rejecting miracles Hume defined miracles as a â€Å"violation of the laws of nature† and consequently rejected their occurrence as both improbable and impractical. This view has been supported by modern scientists and philosophers such as Atkins, Dawkins and Wiles to a certain extent. However Aquinas, Tillich and Holland and Swinburne to a certain extent reject Hume’s reasons, instead arguing that miracles have a divine cause and that Hume’s arguments are weak. We will write a custom essay sample on Assess Hume’s Reasons for Rejecting Miracles or any similar topic only for you Order Now This essay will argue that Hume’s reasons for rejecting miracles are not valid and in doing so consider his two main arguments; lack of probability and Hume’s practical argument. Hume’s first reason for rejecting miracles was a lack of probability. He argued that evidence from people’s experience of observing the world showed the laws of nature to be fixed and unvarying. However to suggest a miracle occurred was to say that the laws of nature had been violated, hence his definition of miracles being a â€Å"violation of the laws of nature. Miracles were reported has having occurred by eyewitnesses, as is stated in the Bible in the case of Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead. However for Hume it was far more likely that the eyewitnesses were mistaken in what they witnessed, than for Jesus to have actually raised Lazarus from the dead and in doing so violated fixed laws of nature. A violation of the laws of nature was therefore an improbable occurrence. Wil es’ agrees with Hume’s point that it is more likely the eyewitness was wrong than a miracle occurred, in doing so raising the problem of evil. It was illogical to suggest God was omnipotent and good if he showed clear favouritism through creating miracles whilst at the same time many people were suffering. It would be more likely that a witness made a mistake or did not understand what they saw than an ominbenevolant and omnipotent God showed clear signs of bias and favouritism through miracles therefore Hume’s first argument is valid. Swinburne supports Hume’s view that laws of nature are defined by the experiences of people observing the world, as he believes that people’s observations are the basis for all natural laws. Additionally Hume’s argument that miracles are improbable is supported by Dawkin’s view that it would be highly unlikely that someone could simply learn to walk again after being paralysed as a result of a miracle, as this would constitute a violation of the laws of nature. This also supports the idea that Hume’s argument is valid. However he rejects Hume’s concept of the laws of nature being fixed and unvarying, as he believed them to be â€Å"corrigible† due the possibility new discoveries and observations about the world could result in them being altered in some way. Additionally Swinburne disagrees with Hume’s idea of what an improbable event is. Whilst for Hume this means an event which it would be foolish to suggest occurs at all, such as the sun staying the sky, Swinburne argues that miracles are more â€Å"probalistic† such as picking out a red grain of sand, highly unlikely but not totally impossible therefore the validity of Hume’s first argument can be questioned. Additionally Swinburne criticises Hume’s definition of miracles as a â€Å"violation of the laws of nature† as he believes that whilst a miracle such as that of Jesus’ resurrection clearly does not fit in with the laws of nature, on it’s own it is not enough to prove the laws of nature have been violated, a view supported by Aquinas who suggests miracles have a divine origin. The contingency argument, supported by Holland and Tillich also criticises Hume’s definition of miracles as a â€Å"violation of the laws of nature. It uses evidence from the Bible, such as Jesus feeding the five thousand, to highlight that God’s aim with miracles is not to fit in with the framework of modern concepts but to for God to reveal Himself to the people. Tillich himself argues that miracles do not have to involve the violation of nature as they can be possible events, such as a train stopping just in front of a child on a crossing, which hold religious signif icance for some people. Therefore a miracle does not have to be an improbable event, suggesting that Hume’s argument is not significant. Hume’s second reason for rejecting miracles is presented in his practical argument. He considered levels of education to be a significant factor as miracles were only reported to have occurred by those who were not educated enough to understand the scientific explanation of an event. The stories these people reported were usually circulated and exaggerated, altering them significantly as is the case with urban myths, such as that after Hurricane Katrina stating that law and order had broken down. Hume also considered the general level of education of the country as a whole to be important. He highlighted how the early history of countries is full of miracles and visions due to the ignorant and barbarous populations, such as the very long life of Adam. However as the country becomes more developed and the populations better educated such stories disappear. Therefore for Hume, Adam living to 930 was simply a story made up by the uneducated, as living so long would suggest the laws of nature to be false. Additionally Hume believes that miracles used by religions to prove their religion true would be cancelled out, as not every religion could be true. Dawkins presents a key strength of Hume’s second argument, by supporting his belief that miracles are only reported by the uneducated, as he believes there is a scientific explanation for the effects, such as Jeanne Fretel being cured at Lourdes. The miracles of people being cured at Lourdes, as well as those reported in the Bible simply show that miracles were used to cover up a lack of understanding of a way the world worked and to increase people’s faith in God, something which is no longer necessary as most people no longer rely on God for guidance therefore Hume presents a relevant argument rejecting miracles. Atkins supports Hume’s argument that the typical educated person would not be inclined to report the occurrence of a miracle as they would know better. According to Atkins it is only the publicity seeker or someone deluded or hallucinating who would claim to have witnessed such an event as they may lack the scientific level of understanding of their peers, therefore Hume’s argument is relevant. However this view has been criticised by Swinburne as it raises questions about how to define terms Hume raises. It is unclear at what stage a person becomes â€Å"educated† sufficiently to reject miracles. It is also unfair to assume that a person believes in miracles simply because they do not know any better, as it is possible to both have a strong belief in God and a good understanding of Science. Further to this it is unclear what constitutes being â€Å"ignorant and barbarous† as whilst earlier nations may now seem uneducated compared to modern times, the nation may have been highly educated for the time as the standards change. Therefore the relevance of Hume’s second argument can be questioned. In conclusion Hume believes that miracles are â€Å"violations of the laws of nature† which are fixed and unvarying, and that they are only experienced by uneducated people who do not understand Science. This view rejected by Aquinas, Swinburne Holland and Tillich. Swinburne believes the laws of nature to be â€Å"corrigible† whilst Holland and Tillich argue that miracles are not violations of the laws of nature but sign events revealing God to the people. However Dawkins and Atkins support Hume’s view that miracles are only experienced by the uneducated. Overall Hume’s reasons for rejecting miracles are valid to only a minimal extent, as he does not consider the different definitions of a miracle, and does not define what constitutes ignorant and barbarous. True Tragic Hero in Sophocles Antigone Antigone e Essay Example For Students

True Tragic Hero in Sophocles Antigone Antigone e Essay ssays The True Tragic Hero in Sophocles Antigone In Master Sophocles Antigone, the question of who the tragic hero really is has been a subject of debate for a great number years. Creon does possess some of the qualities that constitute a tragic hero but unfortunately does not completely fit into the role. Antigone, however, possesses all the aspects of a tragic hero. These are, in no particular order, having a high social position, not being overly good or bad, being tenacious in their actions, arousing pity in the audience, a revelatory manifestation, and having a single flaw that brings about their own demise and the demise of others around them. Antigone possesses all of these traits therefore qualifying as the tragic hero. We will write a custom essay on True Tragic Hero in Sophocles Antigone Antigone e specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now The first qualifying aspect is that Antigone is of a high social standing in Thebes. Creon himself refers to her as a princess though she is technically no longer one. Because of her high standing she is capable of great suffering, in that she has a lot of fame and regard to lose. Those who say Creon is the tragic hero state say that Antigone is no longer in a high position in the society, therefore does not qualify on that account. If the character had needed to be in a high political position this would be true, but they need only have a great deal to lose in their downfall. Although she may no longer hold political power Antigone is still a powerful figure in Thebes, since she was to be married to Creons son Haemon and the whole city seemed to know how tragic her life had become. Antigone and Creon would qualify as the tragic hero if the only requirement was not being overly good or bad. Creon shows his negative side when he refuses to bury Polyneices and when he speaks to the sentry. His positive side is shown in his obvious affection for Antigone and Ismene, whom he has attempted to raise since their fathers death. Antigones ungodly side is shown by her incestuous behavior with her brother Polyneices. Her positive side is shown by the way the she insists on respecting his right to be buried in the religious tradition of Greece so that his soul may live on in the afterlife. Another aspect of a tragic hero is an unwavering course of action, most likely caused by their flaw, that brings about their demise and the demise of those around them. Antigones flaw is her rash and headstrong behavior. This is the source of the conflict in the play. Had Antigone asked Creon for permission to bury Polyneices in observance of the Greek role in religious life he would have probably allowed it. Instead, she rashly decided to take matters into her own hands, most likely because of her anger in losing the true love of her life. This aspect also emerges later in the play, when Antigone decides to kill herself in the cave rather than give Creon the satisfaction of the deed. Had she not been so imprudently hasty she would have been spared her life by Creon, who was on his way to free Antigone and have Polyneices given a proper burial. Creon does not have a tenacious nature, and therefore could not be the Aristotelian tragic hero. His ineptness as a ruler is prevalent in the way he wavers on the topic of Polyneices burial. In the beginning he seems very stubborn, which some say is one of the fatal flaws that qualify him as a tragic hero, but later changes his mind. The true tragic hero would stick to their fatal flaw, like Antigone did, until their complete demise. .u817b929adff355599a1b5d981d9c58d4 , .u817b929adff355599a1b5d981d9c58d4 .postImageUrl , .u817b929adff355599a1b5d981d9c58d4 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u817b929adff355599a1b5d981d9c58d4 , .u817b929adff355599a1b5d981d9c58d4:hover , .u817b929adff355599a1b5d981d9c58d4:visited , .u817b929adff355599a1b5d981d9c58d4:active { border:0!important; } .u817b929adff355599a1b5d981d9c58d4 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u817b929adff355599a1b5d981d9c58d4 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u817b929adff355599a1b5d981d9c58d4:active , .u817b929adff355599a1b5d981d9c58d4:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u817b929adff355599a1b5d981d9c58d4 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u817b929adff355599a1b5d981d9c58d4 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u817b929adff355599a1b5d981d9c58d4 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u817b929adff355599a1b5d981d9c58d4 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u817b929adff355599a1b5d981d9c58d4:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u817b929adff355599a1b5d981d9c58d4 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u817b929adff355599a1b5d981d9c58d4 .u817b929adff355599a1b5d981d9c58d4-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u817b929adff355599a1b5d981d9c58d4:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Social Issues EssayAs far as the issue of arising pity in the audience and in other characters, it is clear that Antigone clearly wins over Creon in the arena of intensity of emotion. Reagan and the 1983 Marines Barracks Massacre in Beirut

Reagan and the 1983 Marines Barracks Massacre in Beirut In 2002, the Presidential Oral History Program at the University of Virginia’s Miller Center of Public Affairs interviewed Caspar Weinberger about the six years (1981-1987) he spent as Ronald Reagan’s Secretary of Defense. Stephen Knott, the interviewer, asked him about the bombing of the U.S. Marines barracks in Beirut on Oct. 23, 1983, which killed 241 Marines. Here’s his answer: Weinberger: Well, that’s one of my saddest memories. I was not persuasive enough to persuade the President that the Marines were there on an impossible mission. They were very lightly armed. They were not permitted to take the high ground in front of them or the flanks on either side. They had no mission except to sit at the airport, which is just like sitting in a bull’s eye. Theoretically, their presence was supposed to support the idea of disengagement and ultimate peace. I said, â€Å"They’re in a position of extraordinary danger. They have no mission. They have no capability of carrying out a mission, and they’re terribly vulnerable.† It didn’t take any gift of prophecy or anything to see how vulnerable they were. When that horrible tragedy came, why, as I say, I took it very personally and still feel responsible in not having been persuasive enough to overcome the arguments that â€Å"Marines don’t cut and run,† and â€Å"We can’t leave because we’re there,† and all of that. I begged the President at least to pull them back and put them back on their transports as a more defensible position. That ultimately, of course, was done after the tragedy. Knott also asked Weinberger about â€Å"the impact that the tragedy had on President Reagan.† Weinberger: Well, it was very, very marked, there was no question about it. And it couldn’t have come at a worse time. We were planning that very weekend for the actions in Grenada to overcome the anarchy that was down there and the potential seizure of American students, and all the memories of the Iranian hostages. We had planned that for Monday morning, and this terrible event occurred on Saturday night. Yes, it had a very deep effect. We talked a few minutes ago about the strategic defense. One of the other things that had a tremendous effect on him was the necessity of playing these war games and rehearsing, in which we went over the role of the President. The standard scenario was that â€Å"the Soviets had launched a missile. You have eighteen minutes, Mr. President. What are we going to do?† He said, â€Å"Almost any target we attack will have huge collateral damage.† Collateral damage is the polite way of phrasing the number of innocent women and children who are killed because you’re engaging in a war, and it was up in the hundreds of thousands. That is one of the things, I think, that convinced him that we not only had to have a strategic defense, but we should offer to share it. That was another of the things that was quite unusual about our acquiring strategic defense, and which now seems largely forgotten. When we got it, we said he would share it with the world, so as to render all of these weapons useless. He insisted on that kind of proposal. And as it turned out, with this cold war ending and all, it didn’t become necessary. One thing that disappointed him most was the reaction of the academic and the so-called defense expert community to this proposal. They were horrified. They threw up their hands. It was worse than talking about evil empire. Here you were undermining the years and years of academic discipline that you shouldn’t have any defense. He said he simply did not want to trust the future of the world to philosophic assumptions. And all the evidence was that the Soviets were preparing for a nuclear war. They had these huge underground cities and underground communications. They were setting up environments in which they could live for a long time and keep their command and control communications capabilities. But people didn’t want to believe that and therefore didn’t believe it. Read the full interview at the Miller Center for Public Affairs.

Exploring the Role of National Culture on Attitudes towards Education Research Proposal

Exploring the Role of National Culture on Attitudes towards Education - Research Proposal Example As the report declares education is the only way to ensure the survival of the civilization, mainly by passing existing knowledge to the younger generations and giving them the capacity to seek further knowledge. However, in the face of globalization, the old methods of transmitting knowledge have become out-dated, especially since the world has become more competitive with the need for people to keep up with changing conditions. These days the world is information-driven and no one can afford to have out-dated information. The United Kingdom emphasises on historical happenings and preservation of cultural values. In the current world, people must be ready to learn from experiences but not to keep looking back at them. All citizens must be involved in the development agenda despite their age, race or gender. This study aims at identifying the cultural values underlying perceptions on education, and making recommendations that would enable stakeholders to work seamlessly for the betterment of the country. The sample will consist of between 120 and 160 secondary schools, only including schools that have data on their student composition, performance, and are willing to give out the data freely. If more schools are willing to provide their data such that it overwhelms the researcher, then random sampling will be employed but taking into consideration the representation of schools and students. This will be the sample for the qualitative part of the study, which will be all about identifying extent, correlations and statistical significance of the interactions of various phenomena under study. The qualitative part of the study will use a cluster sample, and the importance of this sample will be to identify for trends, and look for other

Discourse Analysis Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2750 words

Discourse Analysis - Assignment Example Through investigation of three paradigms: empirical, interpretive and critical, the research uncovered that the dominant discourse is that such bias is not present in the health services sector and that perceptions of discrimination is a product of pre-existing lack of self-esteem and lack of resiliency as a result of cultural inadequacies prevalent in aboriginal cultures. It was discovered that power is maintained in the health sector while deliberate or unconscious marginalization against aborigines dominates the Canadian social and professional sentiment about aborigines. The study concludes that while the researcher has personally observed these biased attitudes, culpability for negative health outcomes on aborigines may be attributable to these populations themselves. Despite the fact that the Canadian health care system provides a legislative framework for ensuring equity of care provision for all members of Canadian society, discrimination seems to be still prevalent in the nursing profession. Bias can be oftentimes observable when providing care to aboriginal members of society, namely against those sharing ethnic characteristics of Indian, MÃ ©tis and Inuit native peoples. Anti-aboriginal discrimination manifests itself through stereotyping, which stigmatizes these society members even in the health care environment. Long-standing stereotypes often portray aboriginals as being pervasive drug users, violent and incessantly unemployed (de Leeuw, Kobayashi & Cameron, 2011). The most prominent label marginalizing Canadian aboriginals is that they are highly dependent on welfare programs and incompetent to the degree that their affairs should be fully supervised by the Canadian federal government (Erickson, 2005). In the health care sector, Canadian aboriginals seek health services, though disproportionate in frequency to non-aboriginal patients.

How Far Can Business Methods Developed In One Country Be Applied In Another :: essays research papers fc

The question states the transferability of business methods from one country to another, via Japanese techniques. However, in order to answer, we must define the term culture, as the term culture encompasses business methods, i.e. in order to adopt foreign business methods we must adopt its culture. In Needle's (1994) definition of culture he states, "A particular interest in business is the extent to which we can learn from the business experiences of other cultures and transplant ideas d eveloped by businesses in one culture and use then in a totally different setting." A major implication of the work of Hofstede (1980) and Trompenaars (1994) and other contributors to the knowledge about international culture and management is that "cultural interpretation and adaptation" are a necessary prerequisite to the comparative understanding of national and international management practice. Hofstede suggests that while 'hard - nosed' (short termist, task/result orientated) American or Anglo-Saxon approachs to business management may work well in Chicago, they may be counterproductive in Japan. More specifically, the procedure of international cultural adaptation may be applied to the three following areas: 1. Motivation theories, 2. Leadership concepts, 3. Management by Objectives (MBO) The three areas are described by Hofstede as symptomatic of the issue at hand. Hofstede states that "not only organisations are culture bound; theories about organisations are equally culture bound." Morden (1993) comments "There is no guarantee, therefore, that theories and concepts developed within the cultural context of one country can with good effect be applied in another. This implies that it is not possible for such theories to be 'universally valid'." In the UK, interest has been awakened by the considerable investment in the economy by major Japanese firms, who have entered certain key industries, such as motor manufacturing and electronics. Whilst taking advantage of investment incentives offered by the British Government, and the range of skills offered by British workers, these Japanese companies (e.g. Toyota, Honda, Panasonic, etc.) have also introduced several of their own personnel and production practices. These have been adapted to achieve the acceptance of the managers and workers concerned, especially in relation to production methods, quality control and management worker attitudes. A comparison between east and west industrial environments can simply illustrate culture differences., In particular, Britain versus Japan. Nevertheless, a number of Japanese management practices have been adopted very successfully in a British context (e.g. Nissan). One of the important general difference between Japanese and British companies lies in the way they are funded.

Orapronobis Case Study Essay

Vigilantes, rebels, ordinary citizens and the government – this is what the film consists of with dry barren lands, unpaved roads and small town as the setting. This is a situation where peace and freedom is difficult to achieve. Nowadays, we are already modernized, living lives in the city and not wondering if this still occurs. Us teens do not really bother what’s with other parts of the country, we only live in a small world, mostly in cyber world but only focusing on entertainment and fun. But does the scene shown in the film really present today? In the story, it was Marcos’ regime when the foreign priest was shot by the so-called orapronobis just because of complaining on what they are doing. At the time martial law ended, our country became democratic and people were non-violent with the lead of Corazon Aquino. That is what everyone thought. But the film just showed me that it is not. It is just orapronobis had been considered vigilantes so the church and the government do not really interfere with their laws and acts even they still kill innocent people. Innocent or rebel, it is still not right to just arrest someone without any proof who they really are as a citizen. Many families had suffered for the loss of a relative especially Jimmy who had been an ex-priest, ex-rebel and advocate for Human Rights, whom his ex-girlfriend back then together with his son got inhumanely killed by Commander Kontra. Now, this moment where Aquino is our president, we do not focus about this matter. We are too busy minding our own lives. There are no news reports about this. But after I had watched the film, I feel a little upset with how our government works. They are too much busy making our country as wealthy as possible not thinking on some poor rural areas where groups such as orapronobis still exist and many men, women and children were brutally killed. I personally did not think that this is still happening but as I had heard on the forum done after the film showing, it really is. It is just media cannot reach this poor areas as well as the government. But it is not right. One’s life is still a life, and it is important. Many lives need justice and these instances needed to stop. I know it is difficult but as this kind of show had been watched by every citizen, there might be some changes. So this must be spread to everyone to make a change!

The Issue Of Equality Within The United States - 1138 Words

Our society has made many steps in the right direction to equality within the last 10 years alone. A few examples being, an African American president, homosexuality in the military, and more recently same sex marriage allowed in all 50 states. Some would say we have made amazing progress with the issue of equality in today’s age, yet there are still many issues proving that we haven’t done our job completely. So with that being said, our government has only protected a limited amount of freedoms. One freedom that is not protected to its extent is Freedom of Religion in schools. Plainview, TX is a perfect example to contribute to this issue. During a recess break in the school day, a 13 year-old boy was caught reading the Bible. It was†¦show more content†¦According to the Texas Association of School Boards, â€Å"Students may pray individually as long as that prayer is initiated by the student and is nondisruptive. A student may pray silently before a test or stop to pray between classes.† This contradicts why Joshua was suspended. He silently read the Bible during his own recess time. Not once had he pushed another student to read along with him or talk about what he was reading. Secondly, a study has recently shown how another issue in society is Gender Equality. According to Huffington Post citing the U.S. Census Bureau, â€Å"Women still earn only 77 cents for every dollar that men earn.† Many would say that equality between men and women has made leaps and bounds of progress, however this statistic can prove that equality between genders really hasn’t come that far. Women once were not allowed in the military, to wear anything other than dresses, and lastly in some states women could not serve on juries. Yes, progress has been made. Yet, in society today women work just as, if not more hard then men at some job places. How come men still earn approximately 23 cents more than women when they are working the same position? It is because women s right for equality has not come to the point it should be in 2016. Huffington Post also states, â€Å"studies show women are paid less even when they are in the same job and have the same
