How Far Can Business Methods Developed In One Country Be Applied In Another :: essays research papers fc

The question states the transferability of business methods from one country to another, via Japanese techniques. However, in order to answer, we must define the term culture, as the term culture encompasses business methods, i.e. in order to adopt foreign business methods we must adopt its culture. In Needle's (1994) definition of culture he states, "A particular interest in business is the extent to which we can learn from the business experiences of other cultures and transplant ideas d eveloped by businesses in one culture and use then in a totally different setting." A major implication of the work of Hofstede (1980) and Trompenaars (1994) and other contributors to the knowledge about international culture and management is that "cultural interpretation and adaptation" are a necessary prerequisite to the comparative understanding of national and international management practice. Hofstede suggests that while 'hard - nosed' (short termist, task/result orientated) American or Anglo-Saxon approachs to business management may work well in Chicago, they may be counterproductive in Japan. More specifically, the procedure of international cultural adaptation may be applied to the three following areas: 1. Motivation theories, 2. Leadership concepts, 3. Management by Objectives (MBO) The three areas are described by Hofstede as symptomatic of the issue at hand. Hofstede states that "not only organisations are culture bound; theories about organisations are equally culture bound." Morden (1993) comments "There is no guarantee, therefore, that theories and concepts developed within the cultural context of one country can with good effect be applied in another. This implies that it is not possible for such theories to be 'universally valid'." In the UK, interest has been awakened by the considerable investment in the economy by major Japanese firms, who have entered certain key industries, such as motor manufacturing and electronics. Whilst taking advantage of investment incentives offered by the British Government, and the range of skills offered by British workers, these Japanese companies (e.g. Toyota, Honda, Panasonic, etc.) have also introduced several of their own personnel and production practices. These have been adapted to achieve the acceptance of the managers and workers concerned, especially in relation to production methods, quality control and management worker attitudes. A comparison between east and west industrial environments can simply illustrate culture differences., In particular, Britain versus Japan. Nevertheless, a number of Japanese management practices have been adopted very successfully in a British context (e.g. Nissan). One of the important general difference between Japanese and British companies lies in the way they are funded.

Orapronobis Case Study Essay

Vigilantes, rebels, ordinary citizens and the government – this is what the film consists of with dry barren lands, unpaved roads and small town as the setting. This is a situation where peace and freedom is difficult to achieve. Nowadays, we are already modernized, living lives in the city and not wondering if this still occurs. Us teens do not really bother what’s with other parts of the country, we only live in a small world, mostly in cyber world but only focusing on entertainment and fun. But does the scene shown in the film really present today? In the story, it was Marcos’ regime when the foreign priest was shot by the so-called orapronobis just because of complaining on what they are doing. At the time martial law ended, our country became democratic and people were non-violent with the lead of Corazon Aquino. That is what everyone thought. But the film just showed me that it is not. It is just orapronobis had been considered vigilantes so the church and the government do not really interfere with their laws and acts even they still kill innocent people. Innocent or rebel, it is still not right to just arrest someone without any proof who they really are as a citizen. Many families had suffered for the loss of a relative especially Jimmy who had been an ex-priest, ex-rebel and advocate for Human Rights, whom his ex-girlfriend back then together with his son got inhumanely killed by Commander Kontra. Now, this moment where Aquino is our president, we do not focus about this matter. We are too busy minding our own lives. There are no news reports about this. But after I had watched the film, I feel a little upset with how our government works. They are too much busy making our country as wealthy as possible not thinking on some poor rural areas where groups such as orapronobis still exist and many men, women and children were brutally killed. I personally did not think that this is still happening but as I had heard on the forum done after the film showing, it really is. It is just media cannot reach this poor areas as well as the government. But it is not right. One’s life is still a life, and it is important. Many lives need justice and these instances needed to stop. I know it is difficult but as this kind of show had been watched by every citizen, there might be some changes. So this must be spread to everyone to make a change!

The Issue Of Equality Within The United States - 1138 Words

Our society has made many steps in the right direction to equality within the last 10 years alone. A few examples being, an African American president, homosexuality in the military, and more recently same sex marriage allowed in all 50 states. Some would say we have made amazing progress with the issue of equality in today’s age, yet there are still many issues proving that we haven’t done our job completely. So with that being said, our government has only protected a limited amount of freedoms. One freedom that is not protected to its extent is Freedom of Religion in schools. Plainview, TX is a perfect example to contribute to this issue. During a recess break in the school day, a 13 year-old boy was caught reading the Bible. It was†¦show more content†¦According to the Texas Association of School Boards, â€Å"Students may pray individually as long as that prayer is initiated by the student and is nondisruptive. A student may pray silently before a test or stop to pray between classes.† This contradicts why Joshua was suspended. He silently read the Bible during his own recess time. Not once had he pushed another student to read along with him or talk about what he was reading. Secondly, a study has recently shown how another issue in society is Gender Equality. According to Huffington Post citing the U.S. Census Bureau, â€Å"Women still earn only 77 cents for every dollar that men earn.† Many would say that equality between men and women has made leaps and bounds of progress, however this statistic can prove that equality between genders really hasn’t come that far. Women once were not allowed in the military, to wear anything other than dresses, and lastly in some states women could not serve on juries. Yes, progress has been made. Yet, in society today women work just as, if not more hard then men at some job places. How come men still earn approximately 23 cents more than women when they are working the same position? It is because women s right for equality has not come to the point it should be in 2016. Huffington Post also states, â€Å"studies show women are paid less even when they are in the same job and have the same
